"The Sewn Connection" is a powerful mixed media art exhibition that delves into the intricate relationships of four artists and their lived experiences, expressed through the fusion of fabric, sewing materials, and traditional art forms. Each artist brings their unique perspective and personal narrative to the show, using textiles not just as a medium but as a language to convey the threads that bind them to their cultural heritage, family histories, and the neighborhoods that shaped them.
From the meticulous craft of quilting to the dynamic combination of sewing and painting, the works in this exhibition weave together personal and collective stories, drawing on the strength of community and the art of storytelling. Utilizing different sewing materials and traditional art mediums, the artists are able to explore themes of identity, resilience, and connection, creating pieces that reflect the complex and layered nature of life. "The Sewn Connection" invites viewers to reflect on the importance of community ties, the role of art in preserving traditions, and the power of creativity to sew new narratives into the fabric of our shared history.
Featuring work from JUS10 Ellis, Joanna Henry, Toye Durrah, and Zaire McPhearson.
The exhibition will be on display at the Historic Springs House from June 2nd-July 11th. A reception will be held on Sunday, June 22nd from 3:00-4:30pm.
